The Covid pandemic and its social and economic impacts will negatively impact on many of our lives, being unable to manage the additional day to day pressures caused by changing relationships and employment. This can impact on our mental health and can lead to depression, substance abuse, family breakdown and even as a last resort suicide.

These outcomes will just pile on the pressure on our already over stretched personal, council and national budgets.

It is being increasingly appreciated that regular physical activity in any form is a highly cost-effective way of helping us all manage our mental health especially during times of personal pressure. AtEastFarleigh

The 6-mile Medway River Path through the centre of Maidstone has been a real mental health asset for many thousands of Maidstone residents over the last year of the Pandemic to allow us to regenerate and escape from our daily pressures, even for a few minutes.

The Liberal Democrats have been pressing for the reinstatement of the collapsed section of the Path between Maidstone and Aylesford as soon as possible.

It is essential that the Medway River Path is maintained to allow us to enjoy safe access to this key local mental health asset, with the cost of repairs being insignificant to the ballooning economic, human and social costs of dealing with mental health.
