Vince CableThe decision of seven MPs to leave Labour and set up a new grouping has left a number of other MPs in both Labour and the Conservative Parties considering their political future.

The Liberal Democrats nationally are clear. Lib Dem Leader Vince Cable commented:

"We've always been strong proponents of working across parliamentary lines. This is no exception. We're open to working with the new Independent Group and any other like-minded individuals to give the people the final say on Brexit. We'll be engaging in talks to progress on that and a wider political agenda."

We will be engaging in talks to progress both that campaign and a wider political agenda.

Folkestone and Hythe Lib Dem Campaigner Tim Prater added:

"It's hard to know if this breakaway group of MPs from Labour is the start of something bigger: we'll see how it develops.

"But at any level, it makes sense to act as grown-ups and work together with other groups where they share your point of view and you have many areas of agreement.

"You can be in, and remain in, different parties and agree and work together. That's real life, and grown-up politics."
